A Fall Reminder: Make Time for Your Health
Between school calendars, holiday plans and everyday errands, it is easy to postpone the small tasks that help keep personal health information organized. Use the change of season to write down the questions you want to ask at your next appointment, check your contact information and keep a current list of medicines to discuss with your healthcare professional.
Review Medicare coverage
Medicare Open Enrollment runs October 15 through December 7. Review your current plan and compare your options using Medicare.gov. Costs, coverage and participating providers deserve a fresh look each year. Florida residents can contact SHINE for free, unbiased Medicare counseling through the Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337.
Prepare your questions
Ask your doctor or pharmacist which seasonal vaccinations and preventive appointments are appropriate for you. Bring your questions rather than relying on a generic neighborhood checklist for an individual decision. Confirm current clinic services and opening hours directly with the provider.
Keep useful information together
Consider keeping your healthcare contacts, medication list and emergency contacts where you and a trusted person can find them. Avoid posting personal medical information in a public neighborhood group or sending it to the magazine.
