A nearby outing does not need a packed itinerary. Pick one place, check its current notices and leave time to enjoy it. Here are the dates and one destination to keep in mind this fall.
Fall calendar
October 23–31: Clay County early voting, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. daily. Check official locations before leaving.
October 24: St. Giles Fall Festival, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.; confirm details with the organizer.
October 31: Halloween. See our Foxridge Trick-or-Treat page for the neighborhood map.
November 3: General Election. Check your own sample ballot and assigned polling place.
November 11: Veterans Day.
November 26: Thanksgiving.
A day at Gold Head Branch
Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park near Keystone Heights offers a chance to spend time outdoors in Clay County. The park was developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. Consider a walk and a picnic, and check the official park page for trail conditions, facilities, admission and any reservations your plans require.
Current park notice: the official website reports that the Little Lake Johnson swimming area is closed because of low water levels, effective July 6, 2026. Do not plan on swimming there. Confirm the status of water activities and rentals with the park before visiting.
The published hours are 8 a.m. to sundown. Conditions and available facilities can change; the park’s current alerts take priority over an older article or photograph.
Plan a comfortable visit
Before setting out, check the weather, the current park notices and the needs of everyone in your group. Choose an activity and route that suit your available time. A short visit with one clear plan can be more enjoyable than trying to do everything.
